UNIVERSITY OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA STUDENT CENTER
The UDC Student Center creates a vibrant urban interface for the District of Columbia's university. Visitors are led to the main entry and grand stair across a patterned brick plaza bordering a campus green space. The building niche holds a rain garden with a branching pattern of walks and seating areas for study interspersed in layered native plantings. Sustainable practices integral to the building and site design such as rainwater for irrigation re-use, recycled and permeable materials, a 14,000sf green roof and geothermal heating contributed to the project attaining a LEED Platinum rating.
